Silowacht joins Royal Kaak

7 reasons why family expansion would be a real Win-Win

Royal Kaak and Silowacht previously worked as two independently operating companies, each with their own domain knowledge. Silowacht ‘from silo to mixer’ and we – now as Royal Kaak – ‘from mixer to truck’. Last year, 1st January 2021, Silowacht officially joined the Kaak family. What developments and trends underlie this joining of forces? We highlight 7 of them.

1 Increasing demand for longer 'pre-proof'

We see that there is increasing demand from the market for a longer ‘pre-proof’. With Silowacht as a specialist in the design, construction and maintenance of silo installations, we are not only able to respond to this increasing demand with more capacity and at a faster pace. The knowledge we add to the Kaak family in this way also has an extra positive effect on the quality we deliver to customers.

2 Bakeries want to go back to basics

We are slowly saying goodbye to the E-numbers. In line with this development, more and more bakeries want to go back to basics, in other words to natural processes. This means that the ‘time’ factor – in which Silowacht plays an important role – weighs more and more on the process and the quality that must be delivered. It is a trend that we notice more often internationally (including in France).

3 Stronger together, smarter together

Because we are now ‘family’, we are able to be closer to each other’s production lines. In that way this construction we can therefore operate more as a whole. A major additional advantage of this is that knowledge, appearance and quality requirements are integrated even more. In short: stronger together and smarter together!

4 Ready for the future

The world population will grow to almost 10 billion people by the end of this century. This also means that consumption will increase, the range will become wider and more types of bread will be added. Complete unburdening – from silo to truck – means that we can meet these challenges even better, more efficiently and – more importantly – with higher quality. The long production processes are the key to ensuring very accurate quality and consistency.

5 Keeping it simple

The baker likes to keep it simple, but at the same time to have all the recipes and techniques at his or her disposal. With the specialization of Silowacht in our chain, we can make exactly that possible. The storage of, for example, salt, flour or apple juice is an intricate work in which dosage and recipe must be perfectly matched. We as Kaak did not have that knowledge before.

6 Major efficiency gain

Silowacht purchased components for the takeover and outsourced detailed engineering. By joining forces, it is now possible to collaborate with colleagues from different locations and as a machine builder pur sang we can fully provide for this. This means that the ‘logistical intermediate step’ is no longer necessary and that cross-pollination takes place and lessons are learned from each other, a major efficiency improvement.

7 Further professionalization

In addition, there has been a significant increase in scale and professionalization in the bakery sector in recent years. The takeover offers Royal Kaak the space and challenge to further professionalize its own processes; Silowacht as the experienced specialist and Kaak with its striking power in the global market.

We have added many new companies to Royal Kaak in recent years. The addition of Silowacht has proven to be an important final step in achieving our mission – from silo to truck. We will of course keep you informed as soon as we can tell you more about this win-win cooperation!
